Love God

Matthew 22:36-38
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”
37 “Jesus said to him, “You shall Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.”
38 “This is the first and great commandment.”

One major command given to Christians (genuinely saved) is to Love God. This is because the process of Loving God threatens and destroys the gratification that the natural man desires.
To LOVE GOD simply means to hate evil, that is, hate every unfruitful works of darkness. So many people today believe that it is impossible to Love God. This is however not true because as a mortal man, we can Love God. As we study, May God open our eyes to see how we can Love Him in Jesus Name.

How can I Love God?
We can show our Love for God in so many ways. These Includes:
(I) By accepting the Gift of salvation: One conventional way of telling fellow brethren that you love them is by accepting gifts they present to you. For example, if a friend presents you a gift and it is turned down; then he begins to probe or ask questions implying something has gone wrong. This also applies to Christendom as failure to accept God’s gift of salvation is an indication that you do not love God. In I John 4:19; the Bible establishes that We love God, because He first loved us and His love was manifested through the Gift of His son (Jesus) to die for us. So if we refuse to acknowledge and receive this gift; we cannot love God.
This gift of salvation is also important because when we receive it, we become spiritual and Godly beings. Hence, we can Love. So I tell us brethren the first way to loving God is by receiving and accepting the Gift of salvation.
Why not thank God for this gift of salvation, confess and accept him as your Lord and personal saviour.

(II) By keeping God’s commandment (Obedience): In John 14:15  Jesus said “If you Love me, keep my commandment(NKJV). This shows that Loving God is equivalent to total Obedience. As young Christians, we are not to find it difficult to obey God; because if we can’t obey Him, it means we do not Love Him. Also in I John 5:3, the Bible makes it clear that God’s commands are not difficult, hence we should be able to obey Him which implies that we Love Him.
From the fore going, May I put it to you that if you find difficulty in obeying any of God’s instruction; you do not Love Him because what HE requires is total Obedience. The account of Saul in the book of I Samuel showed that Saul did not Love God (I Samuel 13:13) and also in the account of the war against the Amalekites (I Samuel 15:19).
Search your heart Now and in anyway you have been disobedient; Ask for God’s Mercy and Grace to obey Him totally.

(III) By Loving your Neighbor: This to many is the second command according to the Bible. But may I put it to you that anyone who doesn’t Love his neighbor; cannot Love God. I John 4:20 tell us that If a man says he Loves God but hates his brother, he is a liar; because he who does not Love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen. This tells us that Loving God is equivalent to Loving your Neighbor. Jesus told a parable in the book of Matthew 25:31-40 about how the righteous fed him, clothe him and visited him. Although the righteous never entertained Jesus, HE told them in verse 40 “Assuredly I say to you in as much as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren; you did it to me. Beloved, let us show Love to our Neighbors; it is not just a second command; because Loving God is equivalent to Loving your Neighbor and Loving your Neighbor equals Loving God. If you fail to Love your Neighbor, you don’t and can’t Love God.
As we conclude, as young Christians proclaiming to have a Mind of God, let us put all these into practice and We will see ourselves as True Lovers of God.
